MBL continues to be the leading supplier to the Butchery and Meat Processing industry in Western Australia and an emerging supplier to the Bakery, Food Service and Packaging sectors. We employ more than 50 people, and service more than 1,500 customers and 358 shareholders.
Our commitment to excellent service and customer needs continues to be the foundation of our success. The values established by our founders — and their unwavering commitment to customer service — are key reasons we’ve become a household name among local food trades.
As much as we love looking ahead to what the future holds, we reflect proudly on where we’ve come from.
The very beginning.
In 1936, two young men started a venture which has made an indelible impression in the business community of WA — particularly amongst the Master Butchers of Western Australia. From a Perth store room, Frank West and Victor Dann started a supply house for Butchers requisites and called their enterprise “Wesdan”. With “Service” their guiding principle (and unlimited energy and enthusiasm) it was not long before the tiny store room became inadequate to handle the requirements of their growing client list.
As the venture gained repute and enjoyed ongoing success, the company moved location several times to expand the operation and keep up with customer demand. Management also entered in to a cooperative agreement with the Master Butchers of Western Australia — a great achievement! Finally, in 1949, Master Butchers Cooperative Limited was incorporated to service the requirements of the Butchering industry.
MBL today.
In 1996 Master Butchers Cooperative Limited was renamed MBL Food services Cooperative Limited. In 2004, MBL Trading Limited was formerly incorporated by ASIC. After multiple property purchases and sales over a number of years, we moved to our current premises in Vulcan Road, Canning Vale. More recently in 2021, MBL Foodservices was renamed MBL Food & Packaging. We’ve also opened a 600sqm showroom to the public and trade alike.
The interactions with our customers and suppliers, and the supply of new and innovative products to our markets, is integral to our achievements and ongoing prosperity. As always, we’re committed to maintaining and growing the relationships we have developed over the last 70 years, and look forward to the new relationships we’ll develop over the next 70.
